8:00 AM – Start Your Morning at KP Breakfast Barn

Every great day starts with a great breakfast, and KP Breakfast Barn is one of our favorite places to begin.

From the outside, you might expect a simple country restaurant. But as soon as you step through the doors, you’ll understand why this place surprises so many first-time visitors.

The rustic barn exterior gives way to a beautiful two-story dining room with soaring ceilings, an enormous floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, elegant leather booths, and warm wood accents that make you feel like you’ve escaped to a mountain lodge.

The atmosphere alone is worth the visit, but the food is what keeps locals coming back.

If there’s one thing you absolutely have to order, it’s the biscuits. They’re everything a Southern biscuit should be: light, buttery, perfectly flaky, and made to pair with just about anything on the menu.

Whether you’re craving pancakes, eggs, country ham, or a hearty breakfast platter, you’ll leave full and ready for a day of exploring.

Local Tip: Arrive early on weekends. This local favorite fills up quickly.

If you’re visiting with younger kids, your next stop should definitely be Village Park.

This beautiful downtown park has something for every age.

Kids love riding the historic train that loops around the park, while the charming carousel is another must-do. Best of all, rides are only $1.50 each, making it an affordable activity for families.

The park also features:

  • A large playground with climbing structures, slides, and swings

  • Walking paths
  • A seasonal splash pad that’s perfect for cooling off during North Carolina’s hot summer months

Even if you don’t have little ones, Village Park is a peaceful place to take a stroll and enjoy the beautifully landscaped grounds.

Vendi Vidi Vici Coffee Shop in Downtown Kannapolis NC

Need a little afternoon pick-me-up?

Head over to Veni Vidi Vici, one of Downtown Kannapolis’ most unique coffee shops.

Our favorite drink is the S’mores Latte. It’s rich, chocolatey, and tastes like a campfire treat in a cup without being overly sweet.

And don’t leave without trying one of their giant cookies; they’re almost big enough to share (although we rarely do!).

Inside, you’ll find an eclectic lounge filled with comfortable seating that feels more like hanging out in your best friend’s living room than sitting in a coffee shop.

It’s the perfect place to relax before heading to lunch.

1:30 PM – Lunch at The Bank Food Hall

For lunch, head to The Bank Food Hall, one of the most unique dining experiences in Cabarrus County. As the name suggests, this food hall is located inside a beautifully restored historic bank building. The architecture alone makes it worth visiting, but the variety of food options means everyone in your group can order exactly what they’re craving.

Whether you’re in the mood for burgers, tacos, pizza, Asian cuisine, or something sweet afterward, there’s something here for everyone. Take a few minutes to admire the original architectural details—you’ll quickly see why this has become one of Downtown Kannapolis’ most popular gathering spots.

3:00 PM – Choose Your Afternoon Adventure

Depending on who’s with you, there are several great ways to spend the afternoon.

Catch a Movie at The Gem Theatre

Step back in time at The Gem Theatre, one of North Carolina’s oldest single-screen movie theaters. Beautifully restored and full of historic charm, it’s a fun way to enjoy a family-friendly movie without paying big-city ticket prices.

Play Pickleball at Carolina Pickleball

If your family enjoys staying active, head over to Carolina Pickleball. Their indoor courts make it easy to enjoy a game regardless of the weather, and it’s a fun activity for beginners and experienced players alike.

Get Creative at Paint Your Hearts Out

Prefer something artistic?

Spend an afternoon at Paint Your Hearts Out, where you can paint pottery, create a custom wooden door hanger, or even sign up for one of their pottery classes.

It’s a great rainy-day activity and a fun way to create a personalized souvenir from your visit.

Cheer on the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers
